Some of you who follow me on twitter or facebook will remember my slightly secretive messages like:
“working all weekend on a proposal”
and
“wish me luck – panel interview”
Well, I got the job. And I’m moving from Vancouver!
I’ll elaborate on the job and why I’m leaving Vancouver (for a while) in a later post, but meantime, thought I’d throw out a fun little challenge:
GUESS WHERE I’M MOVING!
and
I HAVE A PAIR OF GIANT’S TICKETS TO GIVE AWAY- Jan 28 game against the Medicine Hat Tigers, 7pm.
All you need to do is leave a comment either
a. guessing where I’m moving to
or (esp. if you know where I’m going because I told you already)
b. suggesting what you think I should buy in Vancouver before I leave!
Random draw on Sunday night.
OK, hint #1:
Far from being the streets with no name, it has *awesome* street names like:
and
Margot Kidder was born there, btw.
Hint # 2: It has a super strong outdoor recreation culture.
Sailing …
Canoeing
CANOEING! *TOLD* you it has a SUPER strong commitment to outdoor rec!

Hiking (the dachshunds can’t wait!)

OK Readers: Where do you think this might be? Or, what do you suggest I buy, before leaving Vancouver?

Yellowknife, no question. It’s the only place in the world that I know of that has a “Ragged Ass Road”…

You need to buy a parka…:). The Margot Kidder Line is probably (hopefully!!) a dead give away (or am I too geeky?).
I’ll let someone else guess as I already know.

Yellowknife?
Congrats on the new job!

Doesn’t look like Toronto.
Vancouver Island?
My hope was the Okanagan.
But I’m guessing Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.
Holy Crap. Yellowknife.

Wow, Yellowknife? Sounds cool, well cold. I kid! When Anthony and I went up North we were disappointed that we couldn’t make it over to Yellowknife. If it is anything like Whitehorse it will be beautiful.
As for what you should buy before you leave Vancouver, I think some of your favourite junk foods. It is always comforting to have something familiar.

Wow…. Congrats on the Move to the Great White North.. I would suggest that you bring or buy some lululemon apparel as I can guarantee you that nobody up there has started that trend….and it could be a friendly reminder of Home

Yellowknife, nice! My sister just moved away from there. Beautiful place, esp in the summer. Congratulations!

How about buying some mosquito repellant? for the outdoors…… I am excited and I’m not even the one moving!!! all the best, Nancy.

Yellowknife! And you should totally bring a Cowichan sweater. Ain’t nuthin more useful or Vancouverish and you can fit a whole skidoo suit under it. Hell, you can fit an IGLOO under it.
What’s the actual job?

OMG – I will be visiting you in Yellowknife, for sure, to see the Northern Lights. Just remember – planes don’t fly when the temp hits -40oC – jet fuel will freeze at that temp!

Yellowknife. It looks beautiful – what an amazing place to live. I am adding NWT to my list of places to visit. Congratulations – I am excited for you.

Yellowknife – Tom Cochrane named an album after that street. The pics look beautiful. Congrats, Nancy!

Mittens for the dog’s paws are probably useful but also a Canucks sweater since NWT doesn’t have a team.
Congrats!

Congratulations!!!!!
I wish I could figure out where you were going, cause I really want to win that prize. If only there was some clue…..
Of well, on the second question: before you go I suggest you buy a yellow knife. You never know when you might need one.

It looks like you are going to Yellowknife….I’m going along with the herd on this one.
What should you buy before you go? A plane ticket (one-way for now, but be sure to come back and visit!).

I know the sign and road well. As a resident of YK I know that you are moving to the great white north to Yellowknife. Bring your long johns with you because we have had some pretty cold weather with still more to come. I hope you enjoy the north as much as I do.

Yes indeed, it’s off to Yellowknife I go.
I’ll be posting more images over the coming days and a few more details.
The draw for the tix will still be on Sunday – I’ll post the results on twitter, facebook, and this blog.
Thanks a lot for popping by, everyone, and the suggestions for shopping! (more welcome, too! Like: raw ingredients for ethnic food. Just thought of that yesterday)
