Imagine if Canadians were known for being all over their money. Engaged. Proactive. Getting out of debt. Savvy. Saving. Generous.
I think it’s possible.
I started my own journey with money about 10 years ago, and the people in my company “Your Money by Design” help anyone who wants along the same path. It’s not the usual financial advising/investment stuff. It’s the day-to-day stuff – learning how to manage our money with savvy and a bit of zen.
My underlying belief about money comes from the puritans -lol: surprising, as I’m an Anglican (“high”, with catholic tendencies, but way more liberal) – that money is a social good, not a private possession.
You can hear me live-in-person talking about money management and debt, on a podcast with Monty Loree.
After 20 years in Vancouver, 10 in the financial field, I’ve recently moved to Yellowknife, NT to accept a very challenging role with the GNWT for a while.
I deeply miss my character condo and my gritty neighbourhood of gastown/dtes, but change is good and I hope to make a difference up here.

Nancy, you recently replied to a post I made on budgeting, suggesting someone set up three accounts (fixed expense, savings, discretionary). It’s a great idea…I think I might try it!

I have been visiting your site, Canadian Money Coach, for a little while, and really enjoy it. If you are interested I have a way to bring some additional eyes to your stories.
We have started a site called Bizzlo.com. We’re already getting quite a lot of traffic from investors looking for business and investment ideas that aren’t the run of the mill, boring stuff.
Bizzlo is a user generated site, so it is kind of like reddit.com or digg.com, but exclusively focused on investing. If you go to the site and sign up for an account you can post a link and a brief description of any story you want to profile, any time.
Take a look and let me know what you think.
All the best,

Tx for the intel, Travis — I’ve added it to my bookmark for blogs I check daily! And when I find something suitable, I’ll profile. The fact that it segments out Canada is what captured my attention…
Hi Nancy.
I am producing a radio talk show on new years resolutions and how to keep them and acheive goals. I am looking for someone who can give some simple advice on money and how to make some small changes and outlooks in order to help put things into a saving perspective. Would you be available to talk about this at all?
The interview will be on the Nik and Val show on CFUN, CTVglobemedia. and the show runs between 9am and 12noon PT and will be on Wed, Jan 2
If you could let me know if you would be available and/or interested that would be great.
Also I would need a contact number to do the interview from, preferably a land line
Thanks
Samantha
Nancy,
I found you because you mentioned project management in one of your tweets.
I’m helping out a client be smarter and help people better in the world of project management. But no matter your experience with project management, your input would be so valuable. I’ve created a super quick, 5 question poll here: http://www.polldaddy.com/s/5B44527EA5468B35/
If you have any thoughts that don’t fit into a multiple choice response, please direct them to me! And please, if you find this relatively painless, pass it on to your friends!
Hi Nancy,
i saw your post on Twitter, since I’m following you.
But even if I put the @ and posted you back, you’d only see it if you were following me. So I went the extra mile to find a way to contact you.
My Tweetable name is: ArtCareerDeva (and nope, I did not misspell “Diva.”) Follow me and I’ll be glad to @ you
Cheers,
Ariane
Hi Nancy,
Thanks for your comment on the job ad and your suggestion of catching up with whoever gets the job. Actually I’m already doing the job — or a version of it — and we’re recruiting a colleague. I’d love to catch up, too…
Steven
I think you should check your figures for ING. The rate was 3.0 in July 09 but changed to 1.05 in Oct 09. I believe it is currently 1.2 %. The article dated Jan 23 strongly recommended having a self-directed TFSA where the cholces for better returns balanced against risk tolerance and need for liquidity is factored in.
